Co-mail

Co-mailing (collation mailing) is the process by which individual copies of multiple publications and/or versions are merged together in order to obtain the highest presort automation and drop ship discounts by deeper entrance into the United States Postal System.  The bound copies are delivered to Worldcolor Logistics’ (WCL) consolidation/co-mail facility in Chicago, IL or Somerset, NJ where they are presorted and fed into the co-mail machine.  When two or more titles are co-mailed, the publisher of each title benefits from the higher piece count of a combined mailing.  This higher piece count increases eligibility for Carrier Route sortation and automation discounts with the USPS.

Worldcolor Co-Mail

Worldcolor has spent over 20 years developing and perfecting our co-mail operations in order to offer our customers the most cost effective mailing solutions, solutions that can keep or better the pace of USPS price increases.  Along the way we have developed the Express Collation Mailing System (ECMS), boasting a collection of knowledgeable co-mailing professionals that dedicate every working hour to enhancing our co-mail system.  With this due diligence comes one of the most flexible co-mail solutions in the industry for catalogers as well as long and short-run magazine titles, requiring only 72 hours notice to move in and out of a co-mail pool.

The Express Collation Mailing System provides mailers with simultaneous, dynamic, multi-origin co-mailing with regularly scheduled, nationwide distribution.  By entering deeper into the Postal system, co-mail participants receive much less handling than a typical first-class piece of mail, allowing your mail to arrive to your in-home destination faster and in the best condition possible.  Customers using Worldcolor’s co-mail solution in concert with our additional mailing optimization programs (see Mailing Services, MLT, Tracking and Tracing and Transport Management) consistently realize savings on their overall mailing costs, helping to mitigate annual Postal increases.

Worldcolor became the first in the industry to offer Standard catalog co-mail pools in February 2006 and the first to offer mixed-class co-mail pools, combining Standard and Periodical mailings into one pool, in February 2008.  One of the ultimate goals of creating mixed-class pools was the ability to create more pools per week for our customers.  Worldcolor Logistics currently runs at least four co-mail pools per week with the capability to run a pool every 24 hours as volume permits.  The ability to mix the Standard and Periodical mail classes allows us to continuously create larger pools allowing for more co-mail participants, expanded flexibility in when you can join and the availability of additional cost savings opportunities every week in this difficult economic time.

Worldcolor takes pride in our aggressive approach to expanding co-mail services at the rate that our customers’ demand.  We have committed to expanding our investment in off-line co-mailing equipment with the purchase of nine SIM Products’ 30-pocket co-mail machines in all.  Four machines are currently active in our Bolingbrook, IL facility with two additional machines designated to this facility with activation planned for the near future.  There are currently two machines operating in our new Somerset, New Jersey facility (each of these new machines has the capability of feeding pre-polywrapped pieces).  Worldcolor’s expanded co-mail capacity in the Northeast allows us to more effectively service our customers and plants in this densely populated region.
